Thrifty’s Burger Review – Baja Bean Co.

This week, my search for bargain burgers took me to a place I haven’t been in quite some time, Baja Bean Co. (1520 W Main St). On Monday night, Baja’s happy hour special includes $4 Burgers, $2 No Love Nachos, $1.90 domestic bottles, $1.25 PBR Drafts and $2.75 Rail Drinks and Margaritas. Personally, I think that a Margarita and a burger sounds like a perfect pairing, but early in the week, I had to go with a beer.

I have always liked Baja as a hang out spot. They have a long bar with plenty of seating and standing room for groups. The patio is a great spot once the weather turns warm. But my favorite part of Baja is the pool tables. I think of Baja as a place for the casual pool player to play. I’m sure they have tournaments and great players who play there. I am a terrible player and I always have a good time. It is $8 per hour to play on weekdays and $4 per hour to play on Sunday.

Back to the burger…sadly, I can’t say that this burger would make me drag myself out on a Monday night, unless I was in the mood for a good drink special, which I usually am. It was a great deal, a big burger on a perfect bun with a side of fries for $4. It just wasn’t a great burger. We also ordered the No Love Nachos, fresh tortilla chips topped with refried beans, lettuce, tomato, cheese and jalapenos. I know. I know. I am on a burger mission, why am I eating nachos. They were only $2. I couldn’t resist.

It was nice to sit at the bar and catch up on the events of Monday, but I would recommend ordering off their regular menu. They have some great options including a guacamole platter, enchiladas and fajitas, all for under $10. Come on a Sunday and enjoy half price game of pool.  Photo credit.

  1. Nothing better than the perfect sized scrumptious Happy Hour burger after imbibing heavily on the Happy part...good to know should skip the burger part and stick with the Happy part.
