Thrifty’s Burger Review – Can Can Brasserie

Continuing the Thrifty Burger Review series is a Carytown favorite,
Can Can Brasserie.

I love the atmosphere at Can Can. The décor is unlike any place on Cary St and it is the perfect place to people watch if you can get a spot at the end of the bar by the windows. The bar has a lot of seating, making this the perfect setting for their burger deal. Monday through Saturday you can get half priced burgers from 5-7pm. If burgers aren’t your thing, they also have half price oysters and shrimp from their raw bar. You can only order this deal while sitting at the bar, so get there early to get a good seat.

When we went to Can Can, we were celebrating. I had just received a job offer and wanted to splurge (details on the job coming later this week.) Needless to say, I was in the mood for a cocktail! Fortunately, not only does Can Can have a burger special, they also have half price cocktails and draught beers at happy hour. So I ordered a Blackberry Belini, which was Gold Champagne with Chambord and Blackberry Puree. And since it was only $5, I had two! My husband had the Allagash White brew on tap.

But belinis and beers were not the reason we went to Can Can. Back to the burger! We decided to split a cheeseburger and order the Warm Walnut Brie as an appetizer. The Brie was very tasty, but you have to eat it right away or it starts to gel when it gets cold. The burger came out quickly and hot. The beef patty was huge, which made us glad that we decided to split it. I would say it was over 1 ½ inches thick. Even though it was big, it was cooked really well and was very juicy. It was one of the better burgers I have had on my burger excursions.

I would vote for Can Can as a great Thrifty Burger spot at happy hour. We left very satisfied and had a nice time in the restaurant. We ended up with a $32 tab, but that included 2 cocktails, 2 beers, an appetizer and a burger. Photo credit
