Happy Hour Review – The Lounge Bar and Grille

I love it when a new Richmond bar offers a great deals right from the start.  The Lounge Bar and Grille (1717 E Franklin St) has specials Monday through Wednesday nights and not just for Happy Hour.  Mondays are Stir Fry, Tuesdays a Chicken dish and Wednesday Sushi specials all for just $5.  The drink specials are just for happy hour and include cheap rail drinks and $2 Miller Light bottles.

We went on Monday night and I decided to splurge and order the The Gift from Starr Hill Brewing Company, a tasty brew that they had on tap.  Ryan, the bartender was incredibly welcoming and even took us on a tour of the place including the private VIP Lounge in the basement that would be great for a private party.  The Lounge’s open space is conducive to big parties or groups.  They have an upstairs loft area that looks over the space and TVs on every wall if you are there for a game.  I would imagine they get a good crowd on the weekends, but are still working on attracting a week night business (like most downtown spots).

For eats I had the special, Beef Stir Fry for $5 and my husband had the chicken wings appetizer for $7.  They had a really busy weekend, so they were out of a few items on the menu, but we were both satisfied with what we ordered.  For a place that is primarily a bar, it is nice to have good noshes.  We had bites and drinks for less than $20.

The appetizer menu has the classic American starters with some Asian inspired items.  Bites like chicken tenders, Southwestern eggrolls, sliders and crab stuffed mushrooms all under $10.  Sandwiches range from $6-$11 and entrees are a little more.  The chef is from Baltimore, so I am told the crab cakes are prepared in a real Maryland style.  I plan to come back to try them and the sushi.  Photo credit.
